Short answer

Instagram opens your Kick link in its own in-app browser, so viewers get Kick's website, signed out, instead of the Kick app. With a plugwith.me link, one tap on Meta's dialog opens the Kick app straight from Instagram on iPhone, right on your channel.

You go live on Kick, post a story with your link, and the taps come in. The viewer count barely moves, and nobody new hits Follow. Many of those viewers never reached your stream in the Kick app. They landed on Kick's website inside Instagram, signed out, and went back to scrolling. Here is why that happens and how to get them into the app.

Instagram does not hand your link to Safari or the Kick app. It opens it in its own in-app browser, and that browser loads kick.com itself. So instead of the Kick app, your viewer gets Kick's website inside Instagram.

Your link is fine. The in-app browser around it is what gets in the way.

Why are viewers signed out when they land on my stream?

The in-app browser keeps its own cookies, separate from Safari and from the Kick app. A viewer who watches Kick every day still arrives as a stranger. On Kick's website, a signed-out tap on Follow opens a login form. Almost nobody types a password in the middle of a scroll.

That is the expensive part for streamers. A follow is why you post the link, and the login form sits right in front of it. The full list of what else breaks is in in-app browser vs real browser.

Does "open in browser" in the menu fix it?

Only for the few viewers who do it. The option sits behind the three dots in the top corner, and asking your audience to find it every time you go live does not work. A line like "tap ⋯ and open in browser" in your bio costs space and still loses most taps.

How do I get viewers from Instagram into my Kick stream?

Get them out of the in-app browser and into the Kick app. That is what a plugwith.me link does. You put one plugwith.me/yourname link in your bio or story, with your Kick channel as the destination. When a viewer taps it inside Instagram on an iPhone, Meta's own "open outside Instagram" dialog appears. One tap on "Open", and the Kick app opens straight from Instagram, right on your channel. No signed-out website, no detour through Safari.

Flow chart in three steps: 1, a viewer taps your link inside Instagram on an iPhone. 2, Meta's own dialog asks to open outside Instagram, one tap on Open. 3, the Kick app opens straight from Instagram, right on your channel. Below: without it, Kick's website inside Instagram, signed out, where Follow starts with a login form.

What if I stream on Kick and Twitch?

Give each channel its own link. Create a second plugwith.me link with its own slug for your Twitch channel, and put each one where it belongs, for example Kick in your bio and Twitch in the story for a Twitch stream. The Twitch side of the problem is covered in why Twitch links do not open the app from Instagram.

Yes. The same tap opens Spotify, YouTube, Twitch and Discord in their apps on iPhone. If your community lives on Discord, read the Discord invite version of this problem. Beyond Instagram, we have confirmed the route out of the in-app browser on a real iPhone from Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Telegram. More in our guide to escaping the in-app browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Kick link open the website instead of the app?

Because it was tapped inside Instagram. Instagram does not pass the link to Safari or the Kick app; its in-app browser loads kick.com itself, so the Kick app never sees the link.

Why are viewers signed out when they reach my stream?

The in-app browser keeps its own cookies, separate from Safari and from the Kick app. A viewer who is signed in to Kick on their phone still arrives as a stranger, and tapping Follow on Kick's website brings up a login form first.

Does a different Kick URL fix it?

No. Every kick.com link tapped inside Instagram opens in the same in-app browser. The problem is where the link is tapped, not which URL you use.

I stream on Kick and Twitch. Can I use plugwith.me for both?

Yes. Create a second plugwith.me link with its own slug for the other channel and put each link where it belongs, for example one in your bio and one in your stories.

Do I have to update my bio every time I go live?

No. Your Kick channel URL stays the same, so the plugwith.me link in your bio keeps pointing to it. If you ever move channels, you change the destination in your dashboard and the bio stays as it is.
