Short answer

Telegram can show a link in its own built-in browser, where your reader has none of their usual logins. With a plugwith.me link, a tap inside Telegram on iPhone opened Safari directly in our device test on a real iPhone.

You run a Telegram channel and share your latest release, your shop or your membership page. Readers tap, and some of them end up in a browser that is not the one they use every day: no logins, no saved passwords, a checkout that stalls. The link is not broken. Here is why Telegram's browser matters, and how to get readers to Safari.

Telegram has a built-in browser, and on iPhone a setting that decides which browser links open in. Users describe it as the "Open Links In" option under Data and Storage, and it shows up in Telegram's own bug tracker. That means two readers can tap the same link and land in two different browsers.

If you want the basics first, read what an in-app browser is.

What goes wrong for readers in an in-app browser?

An in-app browser keeps its own cookies, separate from Safari. A fan who is logged in to your shop, your membership platform or Spotify on their phone arrives logged out. Saved passwords and autofill are missing, so every login or checkout starts with typing.

Links to apps often stay on the website instead of opening the app, and payment steps can stall. The full list is in in-app browser vs real browser.

Can readers fix it themselves?

Yes, by changing the browser setting in their Telegram app. But you cannot do it for them, and most readers never look at that screen. A line like "set Telegram to open links in Safari" in your channel costs attention and still loses most taps.

You share one plugwith.me/yourname link instead of the bare URL. On a real iPhone on 30 September 2026, we tapped such a link inside Telegram, and Safari opened directly, with no confirmation dialog. The reader lands on your page with their logins and saved passwords.

Comparison table, the same link in Telegram. A bare link: the browser Telegram uses for that reader, logins and saved passwords depend on it, the destination is fixed in every post, numbers are not split by platform. A plugwith.me link: real browser, on iPhone it opens directly, the fan's own logins and autofill are there, the destination can be changed in the dashboard, and each platform has its own slug and is counted separately.

Wherever readers can tap it: the description of your channel, a pinned message and the text of your posts. Create a link with its own slug for Telegram, for example plugwith.me/yourname-tg, so your dashboard shows separately what Telegram sends. Change the destination there once, and every post that carries the link follows.

Does this work on my other channels too?

Yes. On iPhone we have confirmed the route out of the in-app browser on a real device from Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Threads as well. On Instagram, Meta's own "open outside Instagram" dialog comes first, one tap on Open. Facebook takes two taps. On WhatsApp, the real browser opens immediately, and from Threads the visitor lands in Safari with no confirmation step. More in our guide to escaping the in-app browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a link in my Telegram channel not open in Safari?

Telegram can open links in a browser of its own, and on iPhone it has a setting for which browser links use. So the result differs from reader to reader. Your link is fine; the browser around it is not always the one your fan uses every day.

Can I choose the browser for my readers?

Not in Telegram. The setting lives in each reader's app, not in your channel. What you control is the link, and a plugwith.me link takes the reader to the real browser for you.

Does a plugwith.me link open Safari directly from Telegram?

On iPhone, yes. In our device test on 30 September 2026, a plugwith.me link tapped inside Telegram opened Safari directly, with no confirmation dialog.

Where do I put my link in Telegram?

In your channel description, in pinned messages and in the text of your posts. Wherever a reader can tap, the plugwith.me link behaves the same.

Should I use the same link in Telegram and on Instagram?

Use one plugwith.me link per platform, each with its own slug. Both can point to the same destination, and your dashboard shows separately how many readers each platform sends.
